Edmund Barton Chambers was
named after Australia’s first Prime Minister and High Court Judge,
Sir Edmund Barton who was also one of the great architects of
Federation. Sir Edmund became Prime Minister in 1901 and was
appointed to the first High Court Bench as a Judge from 1903 and
remained on the Bench until his death in 1920. The opening of Edmund Barton Chambers in the MLC Centre in 1979 by its then Floor Leader, the late Edward (Ted) St John QC, was a new era in Chambers. Today, our 45 member Barristers practise in most areas of law. Our highly regarded mediators include Alison Stenmark SC and Grahame Berecry.
