Practice as Barrister
Full-time practice at the NSW Bar since January 1990. Also admitted to practise in Queensland, Victoria and the ACT. Member of Edmund Barton Chambers, Level 44, since November 1991. Director of Edmund Barton Chambers since November 2006.

Practised in common law with particular emphasis on public liability, medical negligence, family law, criminal law, defamation and commercial.

Further practice in building and construction law, de facto relationships, lease disputes, contract disputes, trade practices, liquidation and bankruptcy.

Career Prior to Barrister:
October 1988 – January 1990
Principal Legal Officer at the Federal Director of Public Prosecutions specialising in tax prosecutions including team leader of a “bottom of the harbour” tax fraud involving an estimated $123 million and conducting summary prosecutions in Local and District Courts.

December 1980 – October 1988
Legal Officer, Major Claims Officer, Supervisor, Senior Legal Officer in charge of Hunter Valley, Senior Legal Officer Parramatta Region and then Senior Legal Officer Sydney Region at the Government Insurance Office. About 4 and a half years experience in catastrophic injury claims, dual insurance, re-insurance, conflict of interest matters and appeals. From 1986 exercised a delegation to settle claims up to $500,000. Represented the GIO at formal and informal settlement conferences as a Supervisor and as a Senior Legal Officer.

May 1979 – November 1980
Practised at the Bar from 11 May 1979 doing general common law work before taking up positions as a non-practising barrister at the GIO and DPP.

1977 – 1979
Worked for Friedman & Co, London as legal consultant instructing barristers in commercial building arbitrations. I also did some industrial dispute matters.

October 1976 – August 1977
Conducted prosecutions in summary matters as Legal Officer at the Corporate Affairs Commission and instructed Crown Prosecutors in corporate frauds.

November 1974 – September 1976
Worked at the Solicitor for Public Prosecutions (State DPP) instructing Crown Prosecutors.

March 1974 – November 1974
Admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales on 8 March 1974 and worked for Rishworth, Dodd & Menczel, and Hickson, Lakeman & Holcombe. Graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Sydney in May 1974.
